I went to visit Mom last night. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to touch her because of a little eye infection. Swimming laps may be good for you but also causes ear aches and eye infections. Ugh.
Mom had her last dose of antibiotics. She was really nauseous over the weekend from the medication. She's finally starting to feel like eating again. She actually dreamed about food. And in an effort to prevent any more infections, the catheter has been removed. We're also going to try adding yogurt to her diet to try to prevent infections.
The vascular surgeon checked her arm this week. She’s going to wear the vacuum pump for another week and evaluate it again next week. It’s healing enough that she may not need it after next week. I’m not sure what if any treatment will come after that. I don’t think she’s going to need a graft but there’s still healing that needs to happen with the wound.
She’ll be headed back to the nursing home sometime today. We think we’re going back to the same facility but probably a different room. It will be good to get back to steady physical therapy tomorrow. Hopefully the hospital stay wasn’t too much of a setback but I expect it will take some time to get back to where we were a couple weeks ago—ready to try standing again.
She’s going back to the hospital with two ‘boots.’ The boots keep her feet flexed so the muscles don’t atrophy anymore. It can be really painful getting back on your feet when your muscles don’t flex. Her left foot is worse than her right but they’re both going to be painful when we get to that point again.
