Kathy is definitely continuing in a positive arc. She is getting more nimble with her hands and fingers. Last night for the first time she turned the light over her bed off and on by herself using a prop we've attached to the pull chain. She can also work the tv remote control and use the control to raise and lower the bed by herself now. Mom thinks they will try to get her up again soon. We're all looking forward to that day. Although she is worried about the pain of getting up on her feet for the first few times.
She's had a cold for the past couple weeks and that is finally starting to go away. She's had a pretty nasty cough. But at least it wasn't pneumonia again. The wound in her arm is almost completely healed. Pretty soon we won't need to do any more follow-ups with the vascular surgeon. Also, she's about to 'graduate' from speech therapy. They've run out of questions to ask her. Her short term memory is still a little patchy but there's definitely nothing wrong with her long term memory. A new hurdle we're working towards is getting off the catheter. The urologist thinks her bladder is ready to start working on its own again but it will be another slow process of recovery.
And some more good news, their new car finally arrived. Dad picked up his new 2010 Chevy Equinox last night. It's so nice. It has lots of gadgets to figure out. And I'm no help since I'm still driving a 1995 Honda. I don't get the whole keyless entry thing.
I took my dog Coco to visit on Sunday. Coco had a great time and was a hit with the staff and residents. Since it was still unseasonably cool we were able to sit in a courtyard outside with Mom in the wheelchair and watch Coco play for almost an hour. The fenced courtyard has bird feeders, trees and bushes...lots of great hiding places for birds and squirrels that have no experience with dogs. It was totally entertaining to watch her chase them all away every few minutes. I had a worn out dog that night. A tired dog is a good dog.
